The first level of certification is the Black Belt. Black Belts have been trained in the principles and techniques of Six Sigma and have completed several weeks of intensive training in the subject. They are considered the experts in their field and are in strong demand by companies who are looking to employ Black Belts. Black Belts receive the highest commission rates of any of the Six Sigma certification levels.
The next level of certification is the Master’s Degree. The requirements for a Master’s degree are the same as for Six Sigma Black Belts, except that Black Belt training is not necessary. Master’s students must complete an eight-week course that provides them with extensive knowledge of Six Sigma concepts and strategies.
The Six Sigma International Association has developed its own six Sigma certification levels and certificates. Six Sigma International has been in business since 1990 and offers both Six Sigma Black Belt training and Six Sigma Master’s training. Currently, there are nine Six Sigma Green Belt Certification levels and nine Master’s Certification levels. Green Belt certification is for people working in Six Sigma positions in the United States, and Master’s certification is for those in positions related to Six Sigma worldwide.
In order to become a Six Sigma expert, you must complete an internship in which you apply what you have learned in the courses to real problems. You will probably need to work in a field that is related to Six Sigma and the company that you are interning with. After you complete your internship, you will be certified if you took a two-week course related to six sigma. Your certification is good for one year. If you do not complete your six sigma training in time, your certification will not be renewed. When you do get certified, your certificate will be unique and have your name on it.
Your next step in what are the six sigma certification levels is to become a black belt. You will need to complete two or more months of an internship at a Six Sigma training facility. Once you complete your internship, you will become a black belt and be able to work in your company’s Six Sigma program. Black Belts carry their certification with them at all times and can instruct anyone in the program. Green Belts doesn’t carry their certification with them but can instruct anyone who asks.
