There are two primary areas of focus when taking my six sigma certification. The first step is to understand the various concepts, theories, and tools within Six Sigma. This includes learning the names of all of the statistical models used in Six Sigma and how they work together. Next, you will need to understand how to interpret the data and which statistics can provide you with the information you need to make the best decisions. Both of these steps will be covered in my introductory course, which can be found below.
In addition to the above, there is also an extensive curriculum in my six sigma certification program. This curriculum teaches you everything you need to know about implementing the Six Sigma Process in every part of your business. It even gives you the ability to implement Six Sigma into your current projects. You will learn how to manage the Six Sigma Projects while staying within the budgets and deadlines set by your project managers and stakeholders. Finally, you will learn how to implement Six Sigma into your customer service, supply chain, manufacturing, and marketing teams.
When I began working at IBM as a consultant, we conducted a full scale Six Sigma Training exercise within our company. We had nine project managers, who were trained for six sigma certifications and more. We had fifty-two Six Sigma Black Belt trainers, who were trained for six sigma black belt level projects. Once the project managers and trainers were done training, they were sent into various teams throughout our organization to train the people who would be performing the actual projects. The entire exercise lasted thirty days and cost about twelve thousand dollars in total, which is really quite a bit of money, especially when you take into consideration that this was a one-time event and most of the people who were trained actually showed up.
Having everyone present and ready to learn was a real benefit to the project managers, who could see the impact that having Six Sigma Certification on their teams was having. As a result, the Six Sigma Certification Program at IBM went from being just a training program to becoming an ongoing event. Even now, if someone comes into IBM with a project management title and they are not Six Sigma certified, they will be referred to a consultant to assist them with getting certified.
