The Six Sigma Green Belt certification has two levels, White Belt and Black Belt. Six Sigma is a management strategy that drives improvement by identifying, analyzing, and prioritizing problems. It encourages quality improvement by eliminating defects in any process – from manufacturing to transactional services to information – through the identification of work problems, and improving the process for doing the work. The strategy is based on the core values of values, methodology, and performance improvement. To achieve the goals, employees must work efficiently and follow instructions.

Yellow Belt Six Sigma Green Belt certification requirements are very simple and easy to understand. Employees receive training in six sigma basics and six sigma tools. Yellow Belt training is given by Green Belts who has undergone six sigma refresher courses. Employees may not be trained in six sigma tools and methods.

Employees are expected to know the concepts of statistical analysis and data reporting methods by the time they complete Six Sigma Yellow Belt training. Six Sigma Black Belt training requires employees to understand the concept, design, implementation, and results of Six Sigma strategies. Black Belts undergo special black belt training which focuses on implementing strategies in an operational environment.

Implementing Six Sigma in a production environment requires thorough knowledge of the tools, methods, processes, and metrics used in Six Sigma. Project teams are required to develop Six Sigma project teams that consist of people with diverse levels of expertise. Black Belts and Green Belts oversee projects and determine if improvements are needed. Project managers report to Black Belts and Green Belts and meet with customers and stakeholders. Projects are assigned to employees after receiving project approval and funding.

A six sigma training program consists of two hundred and fifty pages of text and one hundred and eighty pages of detailed training. The text and training can be purchased on CD-ROM or by downloading it online. Online courses are cheaper than purchasing the materials in a classroom and provide more flexibility. Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification will be awarded when employees complete their training and pass a final certification test. Employees have up to four years of experience with the company before they are considered for certification.

To obtain Six Sigma certification, companies must first determine what levels of Six Sigma are needed in their organization. Green Belt certification is the lowest level and requires no additional training. Black Belt certification is the highest level and includes workshops and seminars on Six Sigma. Employees must also complete a six sigma project portfolio that highlights their work to receive a black belt certification.

Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification is a stepping stone to black belt certification. It requires at least one year of full-time employment with a qualified company who uses Six Sigma techniques. After one year of full-time employment, employees must enroll in an online course and complete a project. The project must be completed in a specific time frame and must be completed within a specific amount of time. The project must also be presented with a clear plan of action. If the project is successfully completed, employees will receive their six sigma yellow belts.

Six Sigma Green Belt certification is the next step up from a normal six sigma green belt certification. Green belt training usually takes three to four years to complete and includes one year of full-time employment with a company that uses six sigma techniques. Employees must also complete a project and pass a qualifying exam. Green belt certification requires completion of an associate’s degree or higher and typically requires two to three years of work experience with customer-related projects.
