The first six sigma certification body is the International Society of Management Accountants (ISMA). There are a total of ninety institutions in the United States that are members of this organization. If you want to become a member of this body, you will have to successfully complete a training course called the International Certified Six Sigma Implementation Trains (ICIT) and pass an exam that is designated as the International Six Sigma Examination (ISEE). The exam is conducted by the American Society of Accountants (ASA) and is administered by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Once you successfully complete the training course, you will be given the six sigma white belt, blue belt, and the master’s degree. Once you pass the exam, you will be able to become certified as an ISMA.
The second six sigma certification body is the Association for Applied Research in Accounting and Financial Analysis (AAERSA). This is a professional association that is open to all accountants regardless of their field of specialization. You will need to go through an intensive four-day training session and then take the board examination that is given by the American Institute of Professional Accountants (AIPA). Once you pass the examination, you will be able to become a member of the Association for Applied Research in Accounting and Financial Analysis.
The next six sigma certification body is the Financial Service Management Association (FSAMA). As the name suggests, this is an association which is open to accountants who are looking to pursue a career in financial services. One of the requirements that they have is that you must be a United States citizen and hold a bachelor’s degree or higher. Another requirement is that you must work in financial services for at least two years in order to be a member of FSAMA.
The next six sigma certification body is the Institute for Data Management (IDSM). In addition to being open to accountants who want to become certified, it is also open to those who want to upgrade their certification to the Master Certificate in Six Sigma. Unlike many of the other six sigma certification bodies, the IDSM requires that you first become an associate in science in information systems before you can become certified. You must then complete a project involving information security and analysis at IDSM before you will be deemed eligible to take the exam.
Another six sigma certification body is the Six Sigma International. Like the others, this one is open to accountants who want to become certified. In order to join, you must already have a six sigma design concept or project and have done significant work with Six Sigma projects in the past. Once you successfully complete your training and become a member, there are some things that you will need to do. First, you will need to attend a meeting of the Association for Six Sigma Management in April or May, and in that meeting, you will be given an official Six Sigma International certification.
After you become a Six Sigma consultant or trainer, you will find that there are still other certification bodies out there. In addition to the ones mentioned above, you will find that there are the Black Belt Certification Board, the TQM and the CMA. Each of these organizations has its own requirements, but most of them require a significant amount of experience and education in six sigma. Additionally, once you become a Six Sigma consultant or trainer, you will likely be asked to complete an additional training course or two. Usually, these courses cost between seventy-five and one hundred and fifty dollars, and they last between one and three weeks. Once you complete the training, you will be given a Black Belt Certification, which is one of the highest certifications a consultant can receive.
The certification process for Six Sigma is a very important one. Without it, you could find yourself having a difficult time getting clients or getting projects approved, and your job as a Six Sigma consultant would be threatened.
